This crisp uses pears that transform into a juicy, flavorful dessert! What we especially love about it is the unique chocolate crisp on top. Throughout the streusel topping are big chunks of oatmilk chocolate with tart raspberries and hazelnuts — it feels like you’ve struck gold every time you find one of those pools of chocolate heaven! The crisp is baked until hot and bubbly inside and lightly golden brown on top. The texture of the crispy topping and soft pears make every bite incredible. A warm homemade dessert never disappoints!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup butter, cold
- 1 Wild West Grizzly Chocolate Bar, chopped
- 6 ripe pears - Bartlett or d’Anjou
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat a small baking dish (we used an 8 x 8) with a thin layer of butter and set aside.
- Remove the core of the pears and slice them into 1cm (slightly smaller than 1/2 inch) slivers. Place them into a medium bowl with the lemon juice and cornstarch, mix, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa, brown sugar, and salt. Add the butter. Using your fingers, combine the butter with the dry ingredients. Cold butter is key here!
- Chop up the Wild West Grizzly Chocolate Bar and fold into the mixture.
- Add the pear mixture to the pan and spread it flat. Top with the chocolate crumble and create an even layer.
- Bake for 50 – 60 minutes
- Top with ice cream and enjoy!
*Pro Tips:
- You can make the crisp topping for up to 3 days in advance, or you can freeze it for up to 2 weeks.
- If pears aren’t your favorite, apples work really great in this recipe as well.
- Be sure to use a wide, shallow baking dish so the crisp topping is evenly distributed across the top.
